Lags Behind in IT Race
Sun Review April 8, 2000
Is corporate Canada asleep at the Internet wheel? According to most Canadian Internet publications and news websites, Canadians are lagging behind our American counterparts on the dot com bandwagon. If you're looking for a Canadian perspective on the latest technical developments or IT trends, here are some great sites that will help you stay in the loop.
CanadaIT.com (www.canadait.com) has news stories from the Canadian IT sector, including a directory of Canadian technology companies.
Canada Internet.com (canada.internet.com) features news articles focusing on the Canadian Internet scene. Internet.com also has an international channel for internet-related news from other countries around the world.
Brain Paint (www.brainpaint.com) is monthly e-zine which focuses on Internet topics ranging from connections to e-mail to web design.
Viewz (www.viewz.com) presents news, reviews, interviews and advice to help you get more from the expanding world of personal computing - this is an excellent resource.
The Globe and Mail has a great technology news website (www.globetechnology.com) which features articles from staff writers, links to other tech news sites, New York Times, ZDNet and CNET headlines, and a handy feature called TechAlert. Sign up for TechAlert and you will automatically receive an e-mail summary of this week's top technology news from The Globe and Mail.
The High Tech Report (www.ottawacitizen.com/hightech), a weekly section in The Ottawa Citizen, keeps tabs on what's new in Canada's high tech field. An interesting feature is the Semi-Annual High Tech Report, which features reports on the state of the Internet in Canada, and companies to watch.
Silicon Valley North (www.silvan.com) features news for Canada's high tech communities with sections dedicated to BC, Alberta, Toronto and Ottawa.
And speaking of silicon, check out our very own Okanagan High Technology Council's website at www.silicon-vineyard.com, whose purpose is to promote the growth of high technology industry in the Okanagan Valley. Make sure to visit "News and Events" for OHTC-sponsored events in our area.
Local and not-so-local IT movers and shakers will be heading to Kamloops this May for BizTech2000 (www.biztech2000.com) BizTech's trade show and conference runs May 11-13 at the University College of the Cariboo.
