LANarchy reigns supreme
Sun Review May 19, 2001

Blood, guts, gore, and more... for those of you who think that too much is just enough, LANarchy is gunning for you. Randal Ostafichuk and Aaren Jensen are organizing the first North Okanagan Public LAN (local area network) Party, aptly dubbed LANarchy, to be held in Vernon on June 3, 2001.

Randal and Aaren are members of the 100-Base Team, a non-profit club for computer gaming enthusiasts that has been active in the Vernon area for almost 5 years. The club meets monthly and plays the latest computer games in a head-to-head networked environment. Titles such as Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, Half Life and Serious Sam really get their blood pumping.

Increasing interest in public gaming or LAN parties has led the 100-Base Team to take on the challenge of organizing their own LAN party. The all day event will be held on June 3 at the MIX 105 Community Corner in the Alpine Center on Kal Lake Road, and is expected to run from 9am until midnight. With room for up to 40 gamers, the club expects a very fast, very fun, and action packed PC gaming event.

Pre-registration is encouraged, as seating and desks are limited to only forty participants. Admission is $15.00 with pre-registration, or $20.00 at the door. You will need to supply your own computer system complete with monitor and network card. Power bars and extension cords are also recommended. For more detailed specifications, check out the website (http://members.home.net/lanarchist) or contact the 100-Base Team (e-mail: lanarchist@home.com). The organizers will provide network cables and connectivity to the game servers, as well as lead the group with a schedule of free-play games as well as tournament events. You can also win door prizes and tournament prizes: the grand prize is currently a USB Force Feedback Steering Wheel with Pedals for racing game enthusiasts.
