Jobs Galore on the Internet
Sun Review Nov. 20, 1999

Where oh where are all the jobs? No, the answer is not necessarily Alberta. I discovered thousands of job listings on the Internet. If you're searching for a job and are willing to relocate, why not start your job hunt online?

Job listings sites are wonderful resources, but don't forget to check your favourite company's website for additional career opportunities.

Monster (www.monster.ca) has over 4, 500 Canadian job opportunities in their database and over 260,000 opportunities throughout the Monster global network. General resources include job information, resumes & letters, career management, quizzes & tools.

Monster's American cousin, www.monster.com hosts the world's first talent auction: you choose your work, pay and hours as companies bid for your services.

JobSearch Canada (jobsearchcanada.about.com) has job listings, information on telecommuting, career planning and resume writing, and handy links to other job searching websites and services in major Canadian cities.

British Columbia Jobs (www.britishcolumbiajobs.com) lets you browse the latest postings, try a search or two, and then register as either a job-seeking applicant or an actively hiring employer or recruiter. You can take advantage of the free online resume builder and personalized search agent to ensure that your job search is as quick and effective as possible. This website is also part of the CanJobs Network (www.canjobs.com) which allows you to search job listings for any province.

Career Mosaic (canada.careermosaic.com) features a Job Search Agent that allows you to receive regular email updates of jobs that match your criteria.

+jobs canada (www.canada.plusjobs.com) bills itself as a premium, nationwide, award-winning Internet job database determined to help make the connection between Canadian employers and potential employees, and currently has over 3,000 Canadian job listings.

The Employment Paper (www.van.net/emppaper) is your online resource for jobs, careers, and training in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, updated weekly. Find ads in the career, self-employment, and general employment field. There are also handy editorial features highlighting different areas of the employment market and links to other employment related resources on the Web.

And if it's a government job you're looking for, check out Postings (www.postings.gov.bc.ca), which lets you search for career opportunities in the BC Public Service. The Public Service Commission of Canada (jobs.gc.ca) is the source for federal government jobs. Instead of trying to beat the taxman, why not be the tax man? Now that Revenue Canada has been renamed Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), there are many opportunities for full-time, part-time or seasonal employment.

Human Resources Development Canada (www.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca) has several websites to aid job seekers in their search. The Job Bank (jb-ge.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca) has listings for jobs across Canada.

WorkInfoNet (www.workinfonet.ca) is an HRDC partnership site that will bring you up-to-date on the Canadian labour market. Be sure to check out the Labour Market Information page and WorkInfoNet's provincial cousin, www.workinfonet.bc.ca

WorkSearch (worksearch.gc.ca) features many interesting articles to help you explore your skills, identify your interests, assess your aptitude, and of course search more job listings.

The National Graduate Register & Campus WorkLink (ngr.schoolnet.ca) is a website developed by Industry Canada to match employers and recent post-secondary graduates.

For US jobs, you can try HeadHunter (www.headhunter.net), which is one of the largest employment websites in the US and now boasts more than 140,000 job listings and more than 120,000 users per day. The HeadHunter's website also includes career assessment tools, resume services, a resource library and much more.
